Privacy

No accounts, no analytics trackers, no sign-up. This page lists everything that is stored or sent when you use SolarPosition.org, why, for how long, and what you can do about it.

1. Administrator

The administrator (data controller) of the personal data processed through SolarPosition.org is SolarPosition.org (“we”, “the Administrator”). For every question about your data, and to exercise your rights, write to [email protected]. We answer within one month.

2. In short

  • The site itself sets no cookies and runs no analytics.
  • Your settings and calculator inputs stay in your own browser.
  • Our server keeps ordinary access logs for 90 days.
  • The site is free because it shows ads from Google AdSense. Google may use cookies for ads — for personalised ads only with your consent.

3. Server logs

Like every web server, ours records each request: the time, your IP address, the address requested (for the map's data requests this includes the coordinates you looked at), the response status and your browser's user-agent string. We use the logs only to run the service, find faults and block abuse and attacks. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in a secure, working service (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). The logs are deleted automatically after 90 days.

4. Stored in your browser (not cookies)

These entries are kept in your browser's local storage, are never sent to us and are needed for the functions you use (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR and the exemption for strictly necessary storage):

  • display settings — theme, text size, letter and line spacing, high contrast;
  • the last map position and time, and the inputs of the calculators;
  • your answer in the cookie dialog and the date of that answer (kept for 180 days, then we ask again).

You can remove them at any time by clearing the site data for solarposition.org in your browser.

5. Advertising and cookies (Google AdSense)

Ads on this site are delivered by Google AdSense, a service of Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland (for users in the EEA and Switzerland) and Google LLC, USA (elsewhere). When a page with an ad loads, your browser contacts Google's servers, which receive your IP address, the page address and browser information. Google acts as an independent controller of that data.

  • With your consent (“Accept”), Google and its partners may set and read cookies and similar identifiers to show ads based on your interests and to measure them. Legal basis: your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR and the ePrivacy rules on cookies).
  • Without consent (“Reject”), only non-personalised ads are requested. Google may still use cookies or local storage for frequency capping, aggregated reporting and fraud prevention, as described in its policies.
  • You can change or withdraw your choice at any time with Cookie settings at the bottom of every page. Withdrawal does not affect processing before it.
  • Visitors from the EEA, the UK and Switzerland may see Google's own consent message instead of ours; it offers the same choices in more detail.

More: how Google uses information from sites that use its services, how Google uses cookies in advertising and My Ad Center, where you can switch off personalised ads for your Google account. Google LLC is certified under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework for transfers to the United States.

6. Your location

The map asks for your device's location only when you press the “use my location” button, and only after your browser asks you for permission. The coordinates are used in your browser to move the map; like any point you click, they are then used to request sun and climate data for that point.

7. Other services your browser contacts

  • Cloudflare, Inc. delivers this site and protects it from attacks; it processes your IP address and request data on our behalf (processor, Art. 28 GDPR, with EU standard contractual clauses and the Data Privacy Framework).
  • OpenStreetMap tile servers deliver the map images; they see your IP address and the map area. OSMF privacy policy.
  • Nominatim (OpenStreetMap) receives your search text only if you search for an address that is not in our own list of places.

Fonts, scripts and styles are served from our own server; nothing is loaded from font or script networks. The only third-party script is Google's ad script, and only while ads are switched on.

8. Recipients and transfers

We do not sell personal data and do not share it with anyone except the providers named above and, where the law requires it, public authorities. Transfers outside the EEA (Google, Cloudflare) are covered by the EU–US Data Privacy Framework or standard contractual clauses.

9. Your rights

You have the right to access your data, to have it corrected or erased, to restrict its processing, to data portability, to object to processing based on legitimate interest, and to withdraw consent at any time. Write to [email protected]. Because we do not know who you are, we may ask for details (for example the approximate time of your visit and your IP address) to find log entries. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority, in particular in the country where you live or work.

10. Children, automated decisions, changes

The site is not directed at children under 16. We make no automated decisions about you and do no profiling of our own. If this policy changes, the new version is published on this page with a new date at the top.
